Notice Shift Rewire Guide
Notice-Shift-Rewire is a three-step method introduced by Nate Klemp, Ph.D., and Eric Langshur in their 2017 book, “Start Here: Master the Lifelong Habit of Wellbeing.”
This practice enhances executive attention, which is the brain’s ability to filter incoming stimuli, ignore what’s irrelevant, and concentrate on important tasks.
Imagine having dinner with a friend: you are engrossed in their story, rather than being distracted by the person at the next table or the sound of your fork hitting the plate. When executive attention is lacking, according to Klemp and Langshur, we are bombarded by too many competing stimuli, leading to feelings of distraction, lack of focus, and stress. This is especially common in today’s fragmented world, filled with social media, texts, and multiple screens, our brains are overwhelmed.
The goal of Notice-Shift-Rewire is to train the brain to focus its attention, creating new neural pathways through repeated practice. It’s a versatile technique that can be practiced anywhere.
