Spending a Day at a Wellness Center
Wellness centers have become more popular as more people prioritize preventive care and holistic health approaches to physician-led, medication-based care.
But what exactly is a wellness center, and what happens when you actually go to one?
Let’s find out!
What is a Wellness Center?
A wellness center is a facility that offers health services to improve all 5 aspects of well-being.
Unlike regular medical clinics that focus primarily on treating illnesses, wellness centers focus on preventive care and a more holistic health approache.
For example, while your doctor will treat physical symptoms after you get sick, a wellness center will attempt to improve the following components of your health both before and/or after they become problematic
- Physical
- Emotional
- Intellectual
- Spiritual
- Social
Wellness Center vs Med Spa
Wellness centers and med spas might seem similar at first glance, but they’re actually quite different.
Wellness centers focus on overall health. They’re the place to go for yoga, massages, acupuncture, and other holistic treatments. The goal? To tune up your entire body and mind, not just fix a specific issue.
Med spas, however, are more about aesthetic treatments. They offer services like laser therapy, Botox, and chemical peels. The key difference? Med spas operate under medical supervision. You’re getting cosmetic treatments, but with the safety net of professional medical oversight.
So, which one’s right for you? It depends on your goals. If you’re looking to improve your overall health, a Wellness Center might be your best bet. But if you’re targeting specific skin issues or want more advanced cosmetic procedures, a Med Spa could be the way to go.

My Day at a Wellness Center
I went to Arne Wellness Center, located in Littleton, Colorado.
It’s led by Dr. Robert Arne, a Chiropractic Internist. The center offers natural medicine treatments and chiropractic care, focusing on addressing the root causes of various health conditions.
I arrived at the wellness center at 10:00 AM for my scheduled appointments. After checking in at the front desk, I was given a locker key and directed to the changing rooms.
10:15 AM – Fitness Assessment
A certified fitness trainer conducted my assessment.
She measured my height, weight, body fat percentage, and blood pressure.
We discussed my current fitness habits and goals. The trainer then had me perform some exercises to check my strength, flexibility, and coordination.
10:45 AM – Nutritional Consultation
I met with a registered dietitian. We reviewed my current eating habits and medical history.
The dietitian asked about my dietary preferences and any restrictions. Based on this information, they offered a few practical tips for improving my nutrition and will send me a personalized meal plan.
11:15 AM – Stress Management Session
I attended a 30-minute guided meditation session. This was my first time ever meditating.
The instructor led us through breathing exercises and muscle relaxation techniques. The session was held in a quiet room with dim lighting and comfortable seating.
12:00 PM – Departure
The entire visit lasted about two hours and I left without scheduling any follow-up appointments.
